김경민 | Kyung-Min Kim

Kyung-Min Kim communicates with the public through Pop art type sculptures cladded with bronze to questions about happiness in mundane everyday life. Her sculptures are installed in many places within the streets of Seoul, Singapore, Hong Kong and other cities, as well as numerous museums including the National Museum of Art in Seoul. Her work has ubiquity and popularity perhaps because of its intense color, distinctive portrayal and humor. As if she captured a moment in daily life, the work is familiar and refined.

She pinpoints the ordinary landscape or people with her keen artistic eye as expressed in her cheerful work. She structures and dresses the ordinary with her ample imagination akin to writing a personal diary. What was previously inspired by her family’s daily life is now satirically showing the competitive and struggling modern life. Sneering face and overacting gesture describe the exaggerated affirmation as if they feel ecstasy. She points out that it may be happier living humble and light than insisting on better future. She wishes to bring warmth and health to the closed minds with wound and sorrow.
