잉고 바움가르텐 | Ingo Baumgarten (b. 1964, Germany)

잉고 바움가르텐은 도시 전경을 이루고 있는 일상적인 건물을 특유의 기하학적 구성과 감각적인 톤으로 그려낸다. 작품 속 이미지는 우리의 생활 공간에서 익숙하게 볼 수 있는 공간 모퉁이나 계단, 발코니 등이다. 이것들은 작가가 자신의 일상에서 관찰하고 수집한 이미지들이다. 한 켠에 놓여있던 주변적인 것들, 주목되지 않고 배경으로만 남았던 것들이 그의 작업에서는 주제가 되고 미적 대상이 된다. 그가 포착한 것들을 따라가 보면, 건물 구조나 색채에서 발견되는 혼성적 건축양식과 문화의 충돌에서 오는 이질감과 부조화, 전통과 새로움 사이, 시간의 흐름에 따른 변화, 그러한 것들에 내재된 독특한 미적 감성과 뉘앙스가 있다. 익숙하지만 찬찬히 볼수록 낯선 풍경이다. 즉 작가는 보이는 것과 보이지 않는 것의 사이, 형상 너머의 것을 보려 하며, 이를 시각적으로 재구성하여 다른 사람들과 소통하길 원한다.

 

Ingo Baumgarten paints such scenes from the cities with specific geometric composition and sensible touch, carefully revealing their humble beauty overlooked in the routine involuntarily and socio-cultural memories buried in our hectic life. The images of stairs, balconies, and corners on the canvas are familiar elements in our everyday life. He observes and collects these entities daily. Peripheral things that have been neglected as a backdrop are brought forward as the subject matter in his work. We can perceive the sensibility and nuance inherent to the structure and color used in such cultural clash in eclectic architecture - their heterogeneity and incongruity, tradition and novelty, and variation and permanence. It is a familiar yet unfamiliar scene. He explores something behind, between the visible and the invisible, to reconstruct it for communicating with the viewers.
