허윤희는 자연의 생성과 소멸, 즉 순환 과정에 주목한다. 초기에는 인간의 실존과 존재에 대한 질문에서 시작했지만 그의 시선은 점차 인간을 둘러싼 자연과 생명으로 확장되며 오늘날 생태적 감각을 바탕으로 한 독자적인 작업 세계를 구축하고 있다. 인간 또한 자연의 일부로서 그의 탐색 대상에 포함된다. 자연을 인간과 함께 살아가는 존재로 바라보는 시선은 매일의 관찰과 기록, 그리고 반복되는 그리기 행위를 통해 더욱 깊어져 왔다.

목탄 드로잉은 이러한 생태적 세계관을 가장 집약적으로 보여주는 대표적인 작업이다. 주재료인 목탄은 나무를 태워 얻는 가장 원초적인 회화 재료로, 생성과 소멸의 시간을 품고 있다. 이를 사용해 작가는 그리고, 문지르고, 다시 지워내는 행위를 반복하며 회화를 결과물이 아닌 자연과 동화되어 삶을 살아가는 하나의 수행으로 확장한다.

이러한 작업관은 오랜 기간 이어져 온 연작들에서도 드러난다. 《해돋이 일기》는 매일 떠오르는 태양을 기록하며 자연을 몸으로 체감하는 작업이다. 반복해서 해를 마주하는 행위는 스스로의 일상과 삶의 리듬을 자연의 시간에 맞추며 인간 역시 자연의 순환 속에 존재하는 생명임을 되새기게 한다. 또한, 《사라져가는 얼굴》은 멸종위기 식물의 초상을 담아낸 연작이다. 작가는 사라져가는 식물을 개별의 고유한 얼굴로써 정면으로 마주하며 그 생명의 존재감을 화면 위에 오래 머물게 한다. 이를 통해 인간과 자연 사이의 관계를 새롭게 감각하게 하고 소멸을 앞둔 생명에 대한 생태적 감수성을 환기한다.

Huh Yunhee focuses on nature’s cycles of growth and disappearance. Beginning with questions of human existence, her work gradually expanded to nature and other forms of life, developing a distinct ecological perspective. Humans, too, are part of this inquiry. Daily observation, documentation, and repeated drawing have deepened her view of nature as something with which we coexist.

Charcoal drawing lies at the heart of this practice. Made from burnt wood, charcoal is an elemental medium that carries its own cycle of creation and disappearance. Huh repeatedly draws, rubs, and erases, turning painting from a finished object into a practice of living in rhythm with nature.

This approach continues in her long-term series. Sunrise Diary records the rising sun each day, aligning the rhythms of daily life with natural time and reminding us that human life, too, belongs to nature’s cycles. Disappearing Faces portrays endangered plants, confronting each as a singular face and holding its presence on the surface. The series renews our sense of the bond between humans and nature and our awareness of lives nearing extinction.

Major solo exhibitions include Full Emptiness (2025, Lee In-Sung Art Award Exhibition, Daegu Art Museum) and Yunhee Huh: Eternity Is in the Moment (Seongbuk Museum of Art, Seoul). Her work is held in major Korean collections, including the MMCA Art Bank, Seoul Museum of Art, and SOMA Museum of Art.
