Simon Morley is also a writer. He is the author of Writing on the Wall: Word and Image in Modern Art (2001), Seven Keys to Modern Art (2019, also translated into Korean), and The Simple Truth: The Monochrome in Modern Art (2020). He is the editor of The Sublime: Documents in Contemporary Art (2010), and co-editor of a Special Issue of the Journal of Contemporary Painting, ‘Dialogues in Painting and Gesture-East and West’ in 2021. His essay on Chung Sang Hwa was published in the catalog of the 2021 exhibition at the MMCA, Seoul. His most recent book, the product of an avocation, By Any Other Name: A Cultural History of the Rose, is published in October 2021. He is currently writing a new history of modern painting, to be published in 2023.
